Hand Painted Dress for Charity Auction

This 100% cotton dress is brand new, never worn and hand painted to be auctioned off in aid and assistance of victims of the Greater Los Angeles wildfires.

The dress is made by Du Paradis, sized medium and may be may be worn with or without a belt. It is double lined and made from 100% cotton from India. There is a two-button closure with a cut out in the back. The art features a peacock for hope, a dove for peace and vibrant flowers and the words ‘Peace, Hope, Love’ across the bottom of the skirt.

The flowers climb up the front in an Edwardian style, and the best part of any dress: it has pockets.

The art has been heat set, and can be laundered gently or dry cleaned.

Oops! I dropped the lemon tart.

What’s the story behind this artwork? As soon as I had finished outlining the design in black permanent pen, I spilled green paint across the front of the peacock (the symbol of hope, perfect for this piece).

This reminded both me and my work hubby of Mossimo Bottura’s taking smashed lemon tarts and turning them into masterpieces. I’m no 3-Star Michelin Chef, but there wasn’t a moment where I was giving up on this piece.

I think spilling my entire jar of paint on a half-finished piece might have phased me twenty years ago, but not today. I just picked up the jar, mopped up the paint and considered how I would adapt and find beauty in the moment. I saw it as an opportunity to incorporate the ‘mistake’ and continue the creative process. Some of the most innovative and beautiful creations have come to fruition because of mistakes. I guess it was my Mossimo Bottura moment.

Buy this wearable art and I’ll donate the proceeds

It was perfect for this piece, too. In major disasters such as the LA wildfires, it is easy to feel disempowered. I wanted to do something to support my home state, my friends, and family impacted by the wildfires in some way - so I’m donating the proceeds from the sale of this piece to the charity of the winning auction’s choice. They are listed below.

The charities listed provide food, water, shelter, medical care and other services…the total economic losses to my home state are estimated to exceed $50 billion, and many people are still in need of aid.
